I remember the afternoon the storm had begun, posts were being made on Facebook stating that the police were reporting that the roads were getting bad and asked people to stay home unless absolutely necessary. Well, a friend of ours was at work in Sarnia and wasn't able to get home (he lived in Petrolia and we live in Brigden), so my husband offered to go get him. I told him it was a dumb idea, but he figured he'd be fine in his 4x4 truck.

HOURS went by. I hadn't heard from him. The hydro went out, it was dark out and had a 1 yr old and a 2 yr old at home. We bundled up and watched videos on our lap top and FINALLY my husband called. They had gotten stuck on the way to Petrolia, had to get picked up in a tractor and dropped off at our friends house. They had hydro and his friend's girlfriend had made them dinner. Meanwhile, I'm stuck in the dark and cold eating peanut butter sandwiches!

The kids and I ended up sleeping all huddled up on the couch under about 5 blankets. The next morning, I got up to find icicles in my bathtub (because it always dripped). I didn't know how much longer we could make it like that. I called my husband, he said he was just getting his cousins truck and would be back home. He called me a little bit later and found all the roads out of Petrolia had been closed, so he couldn't get out. He said he called our landlord (who lived next door) and they were coming to get us because they had gas fireplaces and we could warm up.

When we finally got over there, they warmed us up with coffee, hot chocolate and warm milk. Eventually, the hydro turned back on and shortly after my husband showed up. He made it back to Brigden on a snow mobile. We went back home, and spent the rest of the day thawing out our house.

That storm, is a storm I will never forget!!
