Maud Hanna devoted much of her time and money giving back to her community.

A life-long Sarnian, Maud donated $10,000 towards the purchase of land for Canatara Park. Her heart was for children, and Canatara Park ensured all Sarnia's children would have a safe place to play and enjoy the lakefront. In her will she left annual installments to Canatara Park, Sarnia General Hospital, St. George's Anglican Church, and Sarnia public schools, among other institutions.

Maud was a great philanthropist and a great volunteer. Her volunteer efforts included the Lambton County Music Festival, the Y.W.C.A., the Y.M.C.A., and the Sarnia Horticultural Society.

Maud is well remembered as a public speaker campaigning for natural spaces while promoting public parks. As recognition for her efforts and contributions, Maud Hanna received the King's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1935.

She passed away July 2, 1946.
