(Pauline McGibbon looks at flowers that a child holds up. Image Caption:"This image of Pauline McGibbon appeared in the Sarnia Observer in August, 1977 during a visit to Sarnia. (Lambton County Archives, Sarnia Observer Negative Collection)"), link.Pauline McGibbon was the first female Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

She was born October 21, 1910 in Sarnia. Pauline spent much of her early career volunteering with the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (or I.O.D.E.). A strong supporter of the arts, Pauline was the first female President of the Canadian
Conference of the Arts. Pauline was sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario on April 10, 1974 and served in that capacity until 1980. She was the first woman to hold a vice-regal office in Canada.

Sheila Gormely reported in an article in 1976, “She has a warm, smiling face wreathed by a grey braid, her trademark… She is almost apologetic for being ‘old-fashioned,' but, because of her upbringing, she says she rarely feels really dressed, without gloves.”

She passed away in Toronto in 2001 and is buried at in her family plot at Lakeview Cemetery in Sarnia.
