During World War II tractors were in short supply. Doodlebugs were Model T Fords were converted into tractors. Cars were converted at a local garage with the help of special kits purchased from the Orillia Tudhope Anderson Company (OTACO).

According to Bonnie Sitter and Shirleyan English's book Onion Skins and Peach Fuzz: Memories of Ontario Farmerettes, “[t]he OTACO Autotrac kit was based on a design being built in Rockford, Illinois. When OTACO representatives visited the company to enquire about manufacturing kits in Canada they were told that if they bought a kit they could go ahead and begin making them in Orillia, Ontario without paying royalties.”
