Black lantern with a spout on each side to put the wicks out. This 1 gallon size Yellow Dog Lantern was used in the oil fields on the walking beams . The men could look outside and see the if lanterns going up and down they would know that their wells were working. If the lantern was sitting still the men knew that the well wasn’t pumping, and they would go out and see what the problem was.
