Staff try out an interactive display in A Taste of Science that invites visitors to identify foods ‘forgotten’ in the fridge by scent.

Grand Bend, ON – Families are invited to explore the science behind food preservation at Lambton Heritage Museum’s PA Day event Spoiled Rotten on Friday, June 6.

Visitors can drop-in between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for this fun and educational event and take part in activities and hands-on learning experiences exploring the fascinating process of food decay and preservation. The event is inspired by the Museum’s feature exhibition A Taste of Science, on loan from the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum.

Activities include interactive demonstrations held at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., sorting food packaging based on how it preserves freshness, observing the work of decomposers as they break down food, and creating take-home crafts inspired by the exhibition.

“Spoiled Rotten is a great opportunity to introduce kids to the important topic of food safety in a way that is fun, interactive, and age-appropriate,” said Colleen Inglis, Educational Program Coordinator with Lambton Heritage Museum. “Whether it’s deciding if different germs are heroes or villains, or identifying where specific food packaging should be stored in their kitchen, the knowledge they’ll gain in these activities can easily be applied to their everyday lives.”

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65+) and students, $3 for children, and children aged three and under are free. No registration is required. For more information, visit the event page on the Museum’s website.
