Discover the story of light at Oil Museum of Canada’s PA Day event Illumination
Oil Springs, ON – On Friday, January 30, 2026, families are invited to brighten up their PA Day with Illumination, an event exploring the science and stories of light at the Oil Museum of Canada.
Families can step into the intriguing world of early lighting technology and discover how people have historically chased away the darkness. Visitors will learn how kerosene, one of the first products refined from crude oil, transformed homes and streets and helped spark the petroleum industry in Oil Springs and Petrolia.
Alongside historical exploration, families can get creative with light-related activities including making a paraffin wax candle, creating shadow puppets, and designing a stained glass-style paper lantern.
“Light is something we often take for granted on dark winter nights, but its story is full of innovation,” said Christina Sydorko, Educational Program Coordinator with the Oil Museum of Canada. “Kerosene played a pivotal role in our local oil industry. This program gives families a chance to connect with that history and shine a little light of their own through hands-on activities.”
This drop-in event takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65+) and students, $3 for children, and children aged three and under are free. For more information, visit the event page on the Museum’s website.
