A section of the upcoming exhibition Bluewaterland at Lambton Heritage Museum.

Grand Bend, ON – Lambton Heritage Museum is pleased to announce the opening of its new feature exhibition Bluewaterland: Dive Into the Depths, running from Wednesday, May 13 to Saturday, October 18, 2026.

Bluewaterland: explores how the waters of Lake Huron and the St. Clair River have shaped life in Lambton County. Visitors will learn about notable Lake Huron shipwrecks, early nautical navigation techniques, the charting of the Great Lakes, and the careers of local ship captains. Rarely seen home video footage documents how residents and visitors have enjoyed the shoreline over time. Unexpected topics include Lake Huron’s surf culture and the rumrunners who smuggled alcohol across the St. Clair River during Prohibition.

A standout feature is the Huron Glow Collection, showcasing sunset photos that celebrate Lake Huron’s beautiful shoreline. These images were submitted by community members via a photo contest earlier this year. Winning images will be displayed for the duration of the exhibition.

Dana Thorne, Curator/Supervisor with Lambton Heritage Museum, shared, “Lake Huron and the St. Clair River are strongly tied to our community’s history and identity. Bluewaterland invites visitors to explore that connection and reflect on the ways people have lived, worked, and gathered along these important waters.”

A Speakers Series will feature four evening talks that deepen the themes explored in Bluewaterland. All Speaker Series events will take place in person at Lambton Heritage Museum from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

• July 16 – Discovering Shipwreck Mysteries of Southern Lake Huron with Greg Hilliard and Tim Moran
• August 20 – Turtles of Ontario: Shell-ebrating Our Native Species with Cassie Greidanus
• September 17 – Rum Running on Great Lakes Waters with Cris Kohl and Joan Forsberg
• October 8 – When Death Stalked Lake Huron: The Great Storm of 1913 with Bruce Kemp
