Oil derricks at the Canadian Energy Museum in Leduc County, Alberta

Oil Springs, ON - Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site, will host their first Virtual Talk of 2023 “Last Chance Well” with Justin Williams, Executive Director of the Canadian Energy Museum on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m.

The Canadian Energy Museum is located on Leduc No.1, National Historic Site, near Leduc, Alberta. Discovered in February 1947, the Leduc No.1 oil well is credited with birthing the energy industry in Alberta, changing the province’s global identity and its place in Canadian history. In this talk, Justin Williams will present the history of Leduc No.1, how this discovery changed Canada and the relationship Alberta has with the rest of the provinces, as well as the legacy of this moment 76 years later.

“We are excited to partner with the Canadian Energy Museum for our first talk of 2023,” says Christina Sydorko, Educational Program Coordinator of the Oil Museum of Canada. “Leduc No.1 represents a very key moment in the expansion of the oil and gas industry in Canada and the impacts from that moment were felt worldwide.”

Virtual talks are free, and registration is required. Learn more about Virtual Talk: Last Chance Well and register online.
