Oil Museum of Canada hosts geology-themed PA Day event on April 24, 2026
Oil Springs, ON – The Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site, invites families to celebrate the geology beneath our feet during the PA Day event Rock On! on Friday, April 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Rocks and minerals are essential to many of the objects we use every day, from building materials to electronics. While these resources are all around us, the geological processes that form rocks and minerals and the technology used to extract them are less familiar. During Rock On!, visitors will be introduced to different types of rocks and minerals before getting hands-on with geology-inspired activities. Create a pet rock, take a closer look at real rock and mineral specimens from the Museum’s collection, press a salt dough fossil impression, and build a colourful geology core from plasticine.
“Geology might seem hidden beneath our feet, but it plays a huge role in our daily lives,” said Christina Sydorko, Educational Program Coordinator with the Oil Museum of Canada. “The geology of Lambton County is especially unique and fascinating as it supports an entire oil industry. We’re excited to have families explore these amazing natural materials and the different ways they are used every day.”
This drop-in event takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65+) and students, $3 for children, and children aged three and under are free. For more information, visit the event page on the Museum’s website.
