Oil Springs, ON - Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site, invites the public to explore the science and processes used in local refineries during their PA Day Event The Science Behind Refining and Oil with special guest Shell Canada.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, drop-in at the museum between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to learn about the science behind refining oil. Experts from Shell Canada will be on-site to discuss what refineries do, answer questions, and introduce the science involved in the production of petroleum-based products. The event will also include fun crafts and scientific demonstrations, such as a fluidized bed and discussions about safety devices like flairs and bugs.

“We’re very excited to partner with Shell for this special event focused on refineries. Here at the Museum, we’re often asked questions about our local refineries in Chemical Valley,” said Christina Sydorko, Educational Program Coordinator at the Oil Museum of Canada. “This is a chance to peel back the layers of work in refineries to really understand what those companies are doing and the processes they’re using to do it. It’s an excellent opportunity to hear from experts working directly in the refining and chemical industry.”

This event is sponsored by Shell Canada and is free for the public to attend. For more information visit the event page on the Oil Museum website.
