Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site offers Behind the Scenes Tours for Museum Month
Oil Springs, ON – As part of the province-wide May is Museum Month campaign, the Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site, invites visitors to take a unique look behind the scenes at the Museum with special Behind the Scenes Tours on Wednesday, May 6.
These guided tours offer a rare opportunity to visit the Museum’s new collections storage area, where visitors will learn how artifacts are carefully organized, preserved, and protected. Participants will also get a closer look at artifacts not currently on public display. Tours are approximately 40 minutes in length and will be offered at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
“These tours will give visitors a chance to see a side of museum work that isn’t often visible to the public,” said Meagan Sinclair, Curator/Supervisor with the Oil Museum of Canada. “We’re excited to share a little bit about the work that goes into preserving our shared heritage and let visitors see our newly renovated collections storage in-person. Celebrating May is Museum Month gives us the perfect timing to offer that experience.”
Registration is required and can be completed online at lambtonmuseums.ca/OilMuseum-Calendar. Regular museum admission applies, and visitors will pay admission upon arrival for their scheduled tour. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65+)/students, $3 for children, and children under age three are free. A family rate of $15 for two adults and up to four school-age children is also available.
Please note that the collections storage area is located in the basement and accessed by stairs. There is no elevator or ramp access to this space.
