Stargazing Party at the Oil Museum of Canada, August 2023

Oil Springs, ON – Discover the wonders of the night sky at the Oil Museum of Canada’s Stargazing Event on Saturday, July 26 from 8:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. in partnership with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – Sarnia Centre. This free, weather-permitting event offers an unforgettable evening under the stars for all ages.

Visitors are welcome to arrive early to enjoy the sunset, projected to be around 8:57 p.m., with stargazing beginning in earnest between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. The RASC-Sarnia Centre will provide telescopes and binoculars for the public to use with professional assistance. Live astrophotography images will be projected onto portable screens, in addition to demonstrations and explanations to help visitors learn how to capture the stars.

The Oil Museum will be open during the event, providing a unique opportunity to explore local history before turning to the skies above. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfort and bug spray, long sleeves, and pants are recommended to protect against mosquitoes. Anyone with personal telescopes, binoculars, or camera and tripod set-ups are welcome to bring them along.

No registration is required. This event is subject to cancellation if inclement or overcast weather prevents stargazing conditions. For more information, please visit the event page on the Oil Museum of Canada website.
