Return of the Swans at Lambton Heritage Museum 2025

Grand Bend, ON –The Tundra Swans have been spotted in the Thedford Bog behind Lambton Heritage Museum. Don’t miss your chance to witness these amazing birds soaring through the skies and calling to each other as they gather in Lambton County!

For many residents of Lambton County, the beginning of spring is associated with this fascinating migration. Tundra Swans make an annual stop in Lambton County as part of a 6,000 kilometer loop between Chesapeake Bay and the Canadian Arctic. In a good year, there may be as many as 15,000 swans resting on the bog, attracted by the melt water of spring and the remnants of the prior year’s corn crop. The number of swans each day can change depending on time, weather, and field conditions.

To increase your chances of seeing swans, visit returnoftheswans.com for updates and daily estimates of the current number of swans in the area. You can also call Lambton Heritage Museum at 519-243-2600 for migration updates. Once you know where swans have been recently spotted, remember to bring your binoculars to get a close-up view.

On your way to see these beautiful birds in person, stop by the museum and explore our Return of the Swans feature exhibit. Learn about Tundra Swans, the history of the Thedford Bog, and participate in swan-themed activities. The exhibit can be viewed during the Museum’s regular hours on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
