Return of the Swans at Lambton Heritage Museum 2026
Grand Bend, ON – Spring is in the air and with it comes one of Lambton County’s most spectacular natural events, the annual return of the Tundra Swans. Small numbers of these magnificent birds have been spotted in the Thedford Bog behind Lambton Heritage Museum. Witness the swans as they gather, soar through the skies, and call to one another during this remarkable migration.
Each year, Tundra Swans make an annual stop in Lambton County to rest and feed as part of a 6,000 kilometre loop between Chesapeake Bay and the Canadian Arctic. The meltwater of spring and the previous year’s corn crop attract the birds to the bog, where as many as 15,000 swans may rest at a time. The number of swans each day can change depending on weather, field conditions, and timing.
To increase your chances of seeing swans, visit returnoftheswans.com for updates and daily estimates of the current number of swans in the area. You can also call Lambton Heritage Museum at 519-243-2600 for migration updates. Binoculars are recommended for the best viewing experience.
While in the area, stop by the Museum to explore the feature exhibit Return of the Swans, available until April 4. Learn about Tundra Swans, the history of the Thedford Bog, and try swan-themed activities for all ages. The exhibit is included with regular museum admission and can be viewed during the Museum’s regular hours on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65+) and students, $3 for children, and children aged three years or younger are free. Visit heritagemuseum.ca for additional resources.
