Rope-making demonstration at Black Gold Fest in 2025.

Oil Springs, ON – The Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site, is excited to announce the annual Black Gold Fest event will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This community event invites visitors of all ages to celebrate Lambton County’s oil heritage through live music, heritage demonstrations, crafts and hands-on activities, food and beverage vendors, and free airbrush face painting.

This year’s heritage demonstrations will showcase traditional trades and skills connected to the region’s history, including blacksmithing, rope-making, and wool spinning. Visitors can meet a historical reenactor portraying an “International Driller,” one of the skilled oil drillers from Lambton County who travelled abroad during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, sharing their expertise with oil operations around the world. Guests will also have the opportunity to take a wagon ride alongside the Museum’s historic oil field landscape.

“Black Gold Fest celebrates the people and traditions that helped build Canada’s oil industry and put Oil Springs and Lambton County on the world map,” said Jessica Stevenson, Marketing and Events Coordinator with the Oil Museum of Canada. “Through hands-on activities and demonstrations, visitors can explore and experience these skills for themselves. This is a chance to acknowledge and discover our unique local history together as a community.”

Visitors are also encouraged to explore the Summer Fun Fest Party at the Oil Springs Youth Centre from 12:00 p.m. to midnight. Hosted by the Village of Oil Springs, the event will feature family entertainment including inflatables, food vendors and beer gardens, lawnmower pulling, and live music throughout the evening.

Admission to Black Gold Fest is free, and donations are gratefully accepted. For more information on this year’s activities, demonstrations, and exhibitors, please visit the Black Gold Fest event page at oilmuseum.ca.
