Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the historic Canatara Cabin has been carefully restored and is now open to visitors at Lambton Heritage Museum.
The restoration has preserved one of Lambton County's oldest surviving log buildings and created a renewed space where visitors can experience nearly 200 years of local history firsthand.
The project continues. Donations now support the completion of the cabin's upper level, expanded interpretive experiences, ongoing conservation work, and the long-term care of this significant heritage building.

The Lambton Heritage Museum Gift Shop offers a limited collection of handcrafted keepsakes created from the original cabin logs removed during restoration. Each piece is unique and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Available items include handcrafted wooden bowls, letter openers, and candlestick holders. Every purchase supports the continued preservation of the Canatara Cabin.

About the Restoration
Originally built in the 1830s, the Canatara Cabin has travelled an extraordinary journey, from a family homestead in Huron County to Sarnia as a lakeside cottage then a community space at Canatara Park, and now to its permanent home at Lambton Heritage Museum.
After decades of exposure to the elements, the cabin required extensive restoration. Through the generosity of donors, funding partners, skilled tradespeople, volunteers, and heritage professionals, the structure has been carefully reconstructed using traditional techniques while preserving as much of the original material as possible.
Today, visitors can once again step inside the cabin and experience an important chapter of Lambton County's early settlement history.
