Faces of Our Past

"I’m grateful for the community members that provided research, images, audio files, and artifacts to help bring our history to life. None of this would be possible without the residents of Lambton County and their eagerness to share their experiences with the public and document their stories for the future. There is something for everybody in the new exhibition, whether they are interested in the history of our early settlers, our local industries, or the 1960s cultural scene."                                                    Dana Thorne, Curator/Supervisor, Lambton Heritage Museum

Your Local Community

The new Lambton Gallery takes you through a thematic exploration of the County’s history.

The overarching theme is Changing Communities. We want to emphasize that although our communities have changed in dramatic ways throughout our history, there are lot of things that we have in common with the people that came before us.

As you make your way through the exhibit, think about these areas of commonality, and how the past is not altogether removed from your present experience.

As a community museum, Lambton Heritage Museum preserves and interprets the history of the County of Lambton. The main exhibition centre, which was originally constructed in 1978, is accompanied by five historic buildings and two exhibition halls which are available to explore during the summer months.

Various interactive displays are placed throughout the Lambton Gallery. With touchscreens and audio programs, the new gallery space allows you to actively participate in learning about our community's history.

Hands On Activities

When exploring the new Lambton Gallery, keep your eyes open for our "Hands On!" signs. These signs are posted throughout the exhibition space, and indicate when a display has an interactive activity that goes along with it. We encourage visitors to participate in these hands on activities to become fully immersed in the display!

A Note from Warden Kevin Marriott

"On behalf of the County of Lambton, I’d like to thank the project contributors, museum staff, and everyone involved for their hard work on this project. The results are fantastic, and I know the community is excited to return and experience more of Lambton’s remarkable past.

The completion of this project represents the culmination of several years of planning work to revitalize the facility."
